Family History
Research
Professional genealogical research goes beyond just locating records—it is detective work! Just like a detective on a case, there are questions to answer, evidence to gather and analyze, and leads to follow.
Every research project is unique. Factors such as time period, record availability, and geographic movement influence both the complexity and the cost of a project. Before investing in hours of genealogical research, begin with a focused research plan.
Research Exploration: Research Plan & Strategy
6 - 10 hours = $360 - $600
The Research Exploration service is designed to answer a critical first question:
What is realistically possible to discover, and how should the research proceed?
This service does not include full genealogical research, but provides clarity, direction, and realistic expectations before committing to more extensive research.
Your Research Plan includes:
A clear assessment of your research objective
Identification of relevant record types
Specific collections and repositories to be searched
A prioritized research strategy tailored to your objective
Estimated time ranges for future research
Identification of potential challenges and limitations
Standard Research Project
15 - 25 hours = $900 - $1,500
For projects with a clear research question and moderate complexity in one location.
I conduct in-depth research across relevant record sets focused on one location and analyze evidence from documents.
Advanced Research Project
25 - 40+ hours = $1,500 - $2,400+
For projects that include brick walls, family stories to confirm or refute, or conflicting identities.
I conduct in-depth research across a wide range of record sets in multiple locations, organize and analyze data to assist in resolving conflicting or missing evidence.
Standard & Advanced Projects include:
A Research Report with a summary of findings, a brief narrative including resolution of conflicting or missing evidence, source citations, copies of documents, and suggestions for further research.
DNA Match
Research & Analysis
Need help understanding how you relate to your DNA matches?
Using a combination of DNA analysis and traditional genealogical research, I help identify biological family members, including parents, grandparents, and extended family.
Because every DNA case is different, projects are priced based on complexity and the amount of research required.
